Here are a few FAQ’s and answers on what to do:
1. My child has a book that belongs to the school library. What should I do?
Keep it at home until school resumes. Read it with your child, and discuss any story patterns, themes, the moral (what you learned), the sequence of events from beginning to end, and other story elements such as major and minor characters; introduction; setting; plot twists; personal predictions; conclusion and resolution.
2. Will I be assessed any extended overdue or late fines?
Absolutely not! We do not expect you to return the book while schools are closed to reduce the chances of spreading illness. Simply keep track of it as best you can, and have your child return it once school resumes.
3. When can I return the book?
When schools are open to normal hours again, we will send reminders to families to please return library books. Again, no fees will be accrued.
4. What should I do about the e-mail book notices I receive?
These are automatically-generated reports that we have disabled as of 3/25/2020. Please disregard them until schools resume to normal hours, when we will re-enable these reminders. You do not need to contact your child’s teacher. Teachers have been encouraged to direct any parents with questions or concerns to this FAQ page.
5. What do I do if my child misplaces the book while schools are closed?
We will be working with families on a case-by-case basis to resolve this. More information may be available soon, but for now, please do not worry. Your family’s safety and well-being are our top priority.
